چکیده

O ften, when removing a tooth, a dentist hears a familiar cracking sound. He or she hopes that it is just the alveolar bone. However, after removing the tooth, sometimes the dentist discovers that there is a root tip left in place. This is a tricky and potentially dangerous situation. The root tip can be pushed into the sinus, the mandibular nerve canal or the buccal mucosa. This would cause the need for an additional surgical procedure or a referral for treatment. Following is a description of a procedure that can prevent this situation from arising, it is one I have used for years with success.

Ultrasonic Technique to Retrieve a Rotary Nickel-Titanium File Broken Beyond the Apex and a Stainless Steel File from the Root Canal of a Mandibular Molar: A Case Report

During endodontic treatment, clinicians may face endodontic procedural mishaps such as broken instruments, which is a complex situation especially when the file breaks beyond the apex. This condition is associated with potential risk of contamination, which compromises the healing process. Management of a broken instrument beyond the apex is difficult and time consuming and requires creativity ...

Reciproc versus Twisted file for root canal filling removal: assessment of apically extruded debris

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the amount of apically extruded debris during endodontic retreatment with different file systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty extracted human mandibular premolar teeth were used in this study. Root canals of the teeth were instrumented and filled before being randomly assigned to three groups. Guttapercha was removed using the Reciproc system, the...

The accuracy of the auto-stop function of different endodontic devices in detecting the apical constriction

BACKGROUND Electronic apex locators (EALs) are modern devices used to determine the working length during root canal preparation. The newest endodontic motors provide an integrated EAL with auto-stop function to prevent instrumentation beyond the predefined working length during rotary root canal preparation. The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of the auto-stop function of the VDW...

A comparison between two electronic apex locators: an ex vivo investigation.

AIM To compare ex vivo the performance of the Apex Finder and the Root ZX apex locators, with and without irrigant, in canals having different diameters. METHODOLOGY Sixty canals in 60 teeth were prepared using stainless steel hand files and 0.04 taper NiTi rotary instruments. During preparation the narrowest diameter of the canal was transported to the apical root surface. The canals were ir...

بررسی عملکرد کالیبراسیون نرم‌افزار سیستم دیجیتال CMOS در ارزیابی طول کارکرد کانال

Background and Aims: Estimating the canal length is essential for reaching to a proper endodontic treatment. Any error and miscalculation in estimation of the working length, especially in curved canals, can result in complication during and after root canal therapy. The introduction of digital radiography has enabled us to measure curved canal length. The purpose of this study was to evaluat...
